The Cocaine Purity Testing conducted by the ALIVE Project has revealed alarming results from a heavily laced cocaine sample. Using our proprietary Cocain QTest®, we detected a low active ingredient content of just 20%. Further analysis using qualitative reagents indicated the presence of multiple unknown substances. The positive reaction with Ehrlich's reagent suggested the presence of a secondary caine, likely pointing to an adulterant. Additionally, responses with Marquis and Liebermann reagents strongly hinted at the presence of phenacetin, an illegal cutting agent often used to adulterate cocaine. These initial test results raised numerous red flags, pointing to a highly adulterated sample. This suspicion was later confirmed with HPLC analysis, which detected several additional substances, further validating the need for reliable cocaine purity tests to ensure the safety of users and prevent exposure to harmful adulterants.
This case highlights the importance of using scientifically validated cocaine purity tests, like the Cocaine QTest®, to immediately detect and confirm the presence of harmful substances, ensuring informed decisions in harm reduction efforts. To confirm these findings, the sample was sent to an HPLC lab, where five additional substances—procaine, tetramisol, caffeine, 4-CMC, and phenacetin—were detected, highlighting the dangers of adulterated cocaine. During his doctoral research at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Microbiology under Prof. Dirk Hoffmeister, Dr. Blei was the first to elucidate the full biosynthetic pathway of psilocybin in Psilocybe mushrooms (Fricke, Blei et al., 2017) Angewandte Chemie. He further developed an in vitro system capable of producing psilocybin, serotonin, and novel non-natural analogues (Blei et al., 2018) Chemistry- A European Journal .
