The Psilocybin-BulkQTest was developed specifically for use with the QTest Photometer, offering a cost-effective way to perform high-precision quantitative analysis of psilocybin and psilocin content in magic mushrooms, at scale.

Available in kit sizes of 25, 50, 100, or 500 applications, this bulk format was created in response to numerous customer requests for a more economical alternative to our standard QTests, without compromising on accuracy.

Blank measurements are provided in addition to your applications For every 25 applications, you’ll receive an extra 5 blank measurements. This means a 25-application kit gives you 25 applications plus 5 blanks; a 50-application kit gives you 50 applications plus 10 blanks, and so on.

Note: This product is designed exclusively for use with the QTest Photometer and cannot be used without it. The Bulk reagent test is not suitable for visual/manual interpretation and does not include settings for eye-based evaluation.

That’s why we developed the Psilocybin QTest: the world’s first scientifically validated, do-it-yourself test kit for measuring psilocybin concentration at home.

Using the QTest-Photometer, results are delivered digitally as a precise measurement of psilocybin content (in mg/g) in your sample. Simply homogenize your batch by crushing the mushrooms, then test a small portion to determine the average potency of the entire batch.

Important Disclaimer

This test is not suitable for identifying Psilocybin/Psilocin or psilocybin-containing mushrooms. For example: When picking wild mushrooms, there is a risk of confusing or mixing them with the toxic Galerina Maginata, which grows in similar habitats. The QTest does not test for fungal toxins, so it cannot be used for mushroom identification. However for test psilocybin-containing mushrooms, the QTest quantifies the amount of the active substance present.

Psilocybin is not uniformly distributed within mushrooms! Even mushrooms from the same batch can vary significantly in their psilocybin content. To ensure accuracy, it is essential to homogenize the mushroom material thoroughly by using a grinder, sharp knife, or cutting board before conducting the test. The test result will indicate the percentage of psilocybin per gram in the homogenized material.  The total measurement will be presented in terms of psilocybin, encompassing both psilocybin and psilocin.

What is a QTest Photometer?

A precision measuring device that reads the colour reaction of your QTest and translates it into an accurate, objective result, rather than relying on visual comparison by eye alone.

 

Why do I need a Photometer for the BulkQTest Kit?

The BulkQTests were developed for customers who needed a more cost-efficient way to test large numbers of samples. Achieving this level of precision and value means the kit uses concentrated bulk reagents, so results must be read using the QTest Photometer rather than evaluated by eye.

 

I don’t have a Photometer – what are my options?

You can purchase the QTest Photometer separately. Alternatively, if you’d prefer a test that doesn’t require one, our standard Psilocybin QTests are designed for simple visual evaluation.

 

What’s the difference between the BulkQTest and a QTest?

The standard Psilocybin QTest is an all-in-one, single-use test made for quick, visual evaluation. It also comes in cost-effective options of 1, 3, or 5 applications, making it ideal for occasional or smaller-scale testing. The BulkQTest, on the other hand, was developed for customers who needed a more cost-efficient way to test large numbers of samples. Instead of individually packaged single tests, it provides concentrated reagents in two bottles along with standard reaction tubes, giving you enough components for 25 to 500 quantitative analyses at a lower cost per test, but requiring the QTest Photometer for accurate results.

 

Which option should I choose?

If you test occasionally and want a simple, ready-to-read result, the standard QTest is the easier choice. If you test regularly or need to process many samples cost-effectively with higher precision, the BulkQTest paired with the Photometer is the better fit.

 

Do blanks count toward my total applications?

No. Blanks are provided in addition to your applications. For every 25 applications, you receive 5 extra blanks (25 applications + 5 blanks; 50 + 10; 100 + 20; 500 + 100).

 

What exactly is a “blank”?

A blank defines the zero point of your measurement. It shows the photometer what the reagents look like without any sample, so it can subtract that natural background colour and measure only what your sample adds. It tells the photometer what “nothing” looks like, so it isn’t mistaken for “something.”

 

How should I store the reagents and blanks?

Store the reagents and blank solution in the fridge (2–8°C) for up to 18 months, or as the label directs. Never return used blank solution to its original bottle.

 

What happens if I skip the blank?

Skipping the blank won’t invalidate your test, but it can introduce a small deviation — typically 1–5%. If your reagents have darkened, results may be overestimated; if lightened, results may be underestimated. This matters most when precision and dosage safety are a priority. In harm reduction, even small variations count, which is why blanking is considered the scientifically correct and safest practice.
