Morphology Psilocybe Semilanceata

The photo shows Psilocybe semilanceata, which we found on a field trip.  It is one of the most common and abundant psilocybin-containing leaf fungus in the temperate zones of the earth.

Morphology: Cap 0.5-1.5 cm tall and wide, acute conical or bell-shaped, yellowish ocher, clay brown, light grayish brown, occasionally somewhat bluish, smeary, finely grooved. Lamellae young light olive brownish, old dark brown, sheath white floccose. Pedicel 5-10 x 0.1-0.3 cm, cream to woody brownish apically almost white, darkening toward base, occasionally bluish. Trama with slight radish odor and taste.

Occurrence: Naturally fertilized (mountain) meadows, pastures and rough grasslands, especially along edges, grassy roadsides and roadsides, in N-poor slurry-free places, saprobiont, gregarious in grass, often next to cowpats, rarely on them.

Phenology: Fall, rarely as early as summer. (Jul-Oct)

Psilocybin content: The active ingredient content is about 1 - 1.8%. In general, the active ingredient content of mushrooms varies widely. These differences can occur in mushrooms of different genera, but also in fruiting bodies of the same species. Therefore, mushrooms should always be tested beforehand. For example with our Psilo-QTest.
